Remember the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears? As Goldilocks made her way through the house she found everything was either "too hot" or "too cold", "too hard" or "too soft", or "too big" or "too small"--- until she came to baby bear's things and found them to be "just right".
I've been thinking of all the things in our created world that are "just right". Some people claim that these things are by accident or coincidence or the product of years of evolution. I choose to believe that these things are on purpose. Aside from the revelation of Himself in Scripture, and the personal revelation to individual hearts through the Holy Spirit, aren't these "just rights" proof enough that there is a God who created and sustains it all?
Just a few examples to show you what I mean.
First, take the temperature of the human body: 98.6 degrees. Just a few degrees lower or higher and the body would either shut down or begin to destroy itself.
What about the distance of the sun from the earth? If it was a little farther away we might freeze to death, and if it were any closer the earth might be consumed by fire. There is a "just right" distance to support life on earth.
Consider the composition of gases in the atmosphere. A "just right" composition is necessary to support and maintain life as we know it.
What about the viscosity of blood? Too thin and we'd hemorrage and bleed out....too thick and blood would not flow to our heart and brain causing a massive stroke and death. Instead it's "just right".
What about the force of gravity? Not enough and we would all be floating around in the air (which might be kind of fun...for awhile). Too much and we'd be pressed into the earth underneath us. It's a delicate "just right" balance.
The examples could go on and on.
From my opportunities to travel around the world I have been amazed with the "just rightness" of it all. From swimming with the sea life under the South China Sea to hiking through the giant, dreamlike peaks of Machu Picchu....each time I can't help but think of how truly amazing the One who created and sustains all of creation is.
From my days in anatomy lab during PT school sitting over a dissected human body and seeing the intensely intricate way everything is woven together to daily working with patients helping them to regain movement of this amazing human body....I am constantly reminded of how God put everything together perfectly and "just right".
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
Colossians 1: 15-17
